Prevention: The Best Medicine
They say the best way to treat an illness is to prevent it. That’s part of our philosophy here at Dr. Michael Tuder & Associates, and we believe that preventive care is essential to every pet’s ongoing health. That’s why our pet wellness care services are designed to maintain our patients’ well-being with the goal of preventing illness. These include comprehensive wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite control, and counseling. With a complete preventive care plan, you can lengthen your pet’s lifespan, helping them be a happier, healthier companion.
About Your Pet’s Wellness Exam
While many veterinarians recommend annual wellness exams for pets, we strongly believe in bi-annual visits to help them stay healthy. Pets age about seven times faster than people, so the more often we can see them, the more likely we’ll be to catch, treat, and prevent illnesses. Each wellness visit includes a nose-to-tail examination of your pet. We’ll look for a variety of different characteristics, including weight gain/loss, lumps, and tartar buildup—all of which can be signs of disease. If necessary, we can recommend blood work, X-rays, or other diagnostic services. We can also discuss and prescribe treatment during the same visit, if a diagnosis can be made after the physical exam.
Other important aspects of pet wellness include:
Vaccinating your pet is another important component of keeping your pet healthy. Vaccines help strengthen the immune system so that if your pet is ever exposed to the illness for which they were vaccinated, the body will be prepared to fight it off.
There are many parasitic diseases that can affect your pet, such as Lyme Disease (tick-borne), Heartworm (mosquito-borne), and a type of Allergic Dermatitis caused by fleas, so it’s important to keep your pet protected year-round. We offer a variety of parasite preventives that can help.
Please feel free to let us know of any questions or concerns you have regarding your pet’s health, whether it’s related to weight, behavior, or something else. We place a strong emphasis on client education, so we’re always happy to help.
“The staff here is fantastic, from the receptionists to the techs to the doctors. The feel of the hospital is very comfortable and not clinical like most places. We've seen several of the vets, who have all been great and very helpful. They are also very conscientious about following up on the pet's status which is great. I highly recommend this place.”

“The staff here is caring and patient. The doctors are also knowledgeable and answer my many questions. When I've had to wait for test results, the doctors have called me back by the time promised. My cat prefers a kind of food they don't normally carry and they ordered it for me, and continued to order it for me without asking, which is great. I haven't had a problem with wait time, either.”
- Jordan C.
“...really attentive and helpful through our dog’s epilepsy and surgeries. I can't say enough kind things about the practice. This may sound silly, but it is a huge plus that they have parking, which made running our dog in during an emergency a little easier vs. walking across town. Seriously the best vets in Hoboken I can never thank them enough.”
- Brooke S.
“This place LOVES animals, from the front desk to the gentle techs. My dog has had to be there quite a bit this month and I never feel taken advantage of financially (all vets are expensive) but they really CARE about animals. It is never fun watching a pet be sick or injured but I can't recommend them enough.”
- Ellyn M.
“All the doctors are knowledgeable, helpful, caring, friendly, and best of all - approachable with all my questions. They know their stuff, and when they walk into the room - they have already read up all the back ground of the specific pet. I'm quite impressed with their prep work.”
- Klessie P.
“From the bottom of my heart I thank all the doctors as well as each and every member of the staff who cared for my Scooter with such professionalism and kindness throughout his entire life. The compassion and understanding that you showed him and me on that last day is something I will never forget.”
- Maria J.
“It meant so much to me that you treated B.J. and Baby Zoey with respect. There aren’t enough beautiful words to express my gratitude. All I could say is if there were more people in the world like you than all our animals would be loved, cared for and happy. You guys are truly the best.”
